I absolutely adore this book (and this series) — it’s a hard read at first, but it’s *so* rewarding. It was engaging and interesting enough that I stopped multiple times each time I read a chapter or two to think through the real-world implications of the storyline. It definitely expects you to be fairly well read; a light background in philosophy, language, religion, gender studies, psychology and probably 18th century history (which I definitely fell short on) will all help in loving this!
